“On the basis of this … the company appears to have arrived fully formed” - the times

groupwork is an award-winning Scottish based theatre company, founded by director Finn den Hertog and choreographer Vicki manderson to create original work across a variety of forms.

After collaborating together on projects including the award-winning Light Boxes (Grid Iron, 2015) and Square Go (Francesca Moody Productions, 2018) Vicki and Finn decided to build upon their existing bodies of work to develop their own style of exploratory, multi-disciplinary theatre.

video and sound designer Lewis den Hertog, another frequent collaborator, quickly joined the fold, as did creative producer Sarah jane imaki and a roster of regular collaborators inclduing performers, designers and dramatists.

groupwork has an integrated, collaborative approach to creating new work; sitting at the intersection of dance, theatre and multi-media performance. our work is visually poetic, formally playful and thematically bold. Movement, image and sound work are at the forefront of our process.

We develop our work through periods of research, experimentation and play and have worked with a number of companies to support and develop our work. these have included National Theatre of Scotland, The Work Room, ThickSkin, the tron and Tramway.

our debut show, the afflicted, played a sold out run at Summerhall, edinburgh during the 2019 fringe festival and received a scotsman fringe first and the scottish arts club award. more information here.

in 2022 the afflicted was reimagined for young audiences as The Hope River girls and was presented at Imaginate festival in edinburgh and on tour throughout scotland.

our latest work When Prophecy Fails premiered at manipulate visual theatre festival in edinburgh in February 2025 to widespread critical acclaim. In august 2026 it will play the Edinburgh International Festival, before touring scotland in autumn 2026 and spring 2027.
